Tell prospective students a bit about the work you do?

As a Learning Consultant I am designing learning and career development programs for various audiences from staff members to Assistant Deputy Ministers.

During the program and curriculum design I conduct research, contact and collaborate with universities and other vendors, review submissions, coordinate the program design, procurement and contract signing process and provide resources.

I lead a ministry-wide mentorship program and create communication materials, speaking notes, articles, memos and a website for our programs.

My work is extremely creative and I love it.

I am extremely grateful for the School of Public Policy and Administration because studying here was exactly what I needed to start my career.

I was a student in the Internationally Educated Professionals (IEP) program. The IEP courses have been very useful and prepared me for all aspects of the Canadian work environment. Within the IEP program I specialized in Public Administration and was fortunate enough to get accepted for the two most important courses of my studies. The Practicum (PPAS 4995) and the Program Evaluation (PPAS 4310 and 4320) courses – during which students work within the government - provided me extensive knowledge, practical experience and networking opportunities.

I wholeheartedly recommend York and SPPA for everyone who has international credentials and professional experience.

As a Business Advisor with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, I am developing and implementing business change initiatives; managing the stakeholder, business and contractual relationships with the ministry's Service Providers' Network; and supporting field staff by analyzing legislative and operational policies and providing recommendations/strategic direction on the appropriate course of action.

I was introduced to government through the course called Practicum in Public Administration (AP/PPAS 4995 6.0) delivered by one of the most gifted professors that I have ever encountered, Peter Constantinou. The course gave me the opportunity to combine volunteer work experience in the Ministry of Government Services with the academic analysis of the potential governance and accountability mechanisms and alternative service delivery models.

This experience helped me build my network, expand my skills, learn about the workplace culture and get a contract position with the ministry.
